The Global Law and Development Center (NDGD) gathers, within the scope of FGV Sao Paulo Law School, all research and discussion efforts on public and private international law; the processes that could be joined under the title of internationalization – or globalization – of Law; and the notion of a global Law that comprises all normative phenomena that affect the most diverse international relations. All projects carried out in this unit focus on these subjects, these phenomena, exploring how they relate to development, either nationally or internationally –not restricted to the State society.
The theoretical approaches adopted in many of these efforts include those on law and development, but are not limited to them. The critical perspective on the (global) Theory of Law and its practice is prominent in several projects. Considering the broad scope of the core studies, which include the analysis of norms that affect the international scenario beyond the behavior of States, the projects correspond to the two main lines of research of the Master’s and PhD Degree in Law and Development of FGV Sao Paulo Law School: one deals with the democratic institutions of the Rule-based Democracy and social-political development, and the other addresses business law and economic and social development. Some of the most recent and current studies take a close look at what might be called the global South and the postcolonial world.
