Doctor’s degree in International Law, Universidade de São Paulo (2004). His doctoral thesis connected the issue of soft law to the study of the sources of public international law. Bachelor of Laws, Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (1990). Has a Higher Diploma in Private International Law and a Diploma on Further Studies on Public International Law - University of Paris II - Panthéon Sorbonne (1992 and 1993). Since 2004, he has lectured at the Law School of Fundação Getulio Vargas in São Paulo — DIREITO SP, where in line with an innovative proposal of law education, he has developed teaching materials and tested teaching methods for the subjects related to legal regulation of international affairs. His research agenda includes theoretical investigations on public international law, now grouped under the general theme of Rule of Law and International Law, including the breakdown of international law and cross-border legal systems; the study of Islamic law and its relationship with international law; the diversity of representations of law and compared legal systems. Some of these issues have been discussed in various publications and public presentations. Salem has also intensively investigated and discussed issues related to the Middle East and the Arab and Muslim worlds. Coordinator of the Center of Global Law of Direito GV. In 2009 and 2011, he was a visiting researcher at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law and the European University Institute, respectively.
