Thiago Reis e Souza

Thiago Reis specializes in the fields of private law, comparative law and legal history. Having graduated from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) in 2005, he was a member of the International Max Planck Research School for Comparative Legal History (IMPRS) between 2006-2009, and of the Frankfurt Graduate School for the Humanities and Social Sciences (FGS) in 2010. He earned an LL.M. degree from the University of Frankfurt in 2007, for which he was awarded the Clifford Chance Prize for best master’s thesis. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Joachim Rückert, he completed his doctorate summa cum laude at the University of Frankfurt in 2011. His dissertation was awarded the Walter Kolb Memorial Prize 2012 for distinguished academic work. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History between 2012-2013 before joining FGV in August 2013. He was a visiting researcher at the Universities of Cologne (2016), Florence (2018) and Singapore (2018), and at the Max Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht (2019).
