The ICJ Brasil – Index of Trust in Justice in Brazil is a survey, carried out in seven states and the Federal District, based on a representative sample of the population. Its goal is to monitor systematically the population’s feeling towards the Brazilian Judiciary. Showing the citizen's trust in an institution means identifying if the citizen believes that this institution performs its function with quality, in such a way that the benefits of its performance are greater than its costs, and if this institution is present in the daily life of the common citizen.
Hence, ICJ Brasil is composed of two sub-indices: 1) a perception sub-index, that measures the population's opinion about Justice, and how it provides a public service; and 2) a behavior sub-index, through which we seek to identify if the population goes to the Judiciary to solve certain conflicts.
