This is an empirical research on the application of the Sex Crimes Law, to understand how legal mechanisms for dealing with sexual crimes against women operate in Brazil, and highlight some of the main obstacles faced by the criminal justice system, which contribute to the general perception of judiciary’s poor performance in protecting women, through the anti-rape legislation. It will use qualitative and quantitative research on TJSP (Sao Paulo Court of Appeals) judgments, in addition to case studies.
